How does a teacher become a teacher? A teacher must go through many years of schooling, to become a teacher. The teacher must have a credential or a license to teach in America. The future teacher must attend college and take the courses need to become a teacher. Also in the career of teaching there is always a job for the pupil seeking the career choice of being a teacher. Teaching is also a very rewarding career, it may not be the highest paying job, but the satisfaction of knowing a child has learned how to read, write, spell, and math. The definition of teaching is to instruct, to educate, to discipline, to impart knowledge of (Allee,381). That is what a teacher does every single day in his or hers classroom. There are many different types of teachers, there are preschool, elementary, secondary, and high school. The type of teaching career I would like to be is the elementary school teacher. I feel that the elementary teacher would be the most rewarding for me, because the youngest years of the students life is the building block of their education. The students learn the most during that time because of all the questions they ask and they want to know and how things work and why we need them. So there are more interested in learning more so then in their later years of education. The requirements it takes to be an elementary school teacher. Most states require the aspiring teacher to have completed four years of accredited college work and have to achieved the bachelor’s degree to be certified to teach (Hopke,495). I have been soul searching for many years now to have a better understanding of what I am suppose to do in my life. It was there that I finally realized what I had been searching for in my life. I was spending a lot of time with a co-worker who had children in the school system. I vividly remember hearing her children say, â€Å"the teacher’s don’t care.† This was shocking for a child who was in the fourth grade to be saying to me. I guess because I had a great experience in school wit h wonderful caring teachers. My memories of school are a little blurred with age but I do remember looking up to them as role models. Especially, my eighth grade English teacher who was the first person who ever told me that I was a beautiful writer. She encouraged me to continue to learn as much as I could about becoming a good writer. I still see her from time to time and she asks if I am still writing. I always say yes, but the last time I saw her, I got the chance to tell her that I am also in school to be a teacher. She is very happy for me. Therefore, my school experience being so positive I had not thought what it would be like if teachers did not care.
